WHAT MANNER OF MINDFUCKERY IS THIS
uninterruptednonsense:vondell-swain: Seychelles Giant Tortoise
This tortoise, who died in 2006, was born 26 years before America was formed, in 1750. It was born when Thomas Jefferson was seven and died twelve days after James Blunt’s “You’re Beautiful” hit number-one on the US charts.
Apparently the turtle’s name was Adwaita (meaning “the one and only” in Sanskrit), and he was from the Seychelles, having been captured by a British general and kept as a pet in India during the colonial period. He was “around 255” years old!

Shingleback/Stump-tailed skinks (Tiliqua rugosa)
So I watched a program about lizards on BBC the other day and they talk about these pine cone-like lizards. It truly intrigued me.
You see, when mating season comes, if a female skink attracts the eyes of a male, he will come and court her, following her everywhere. They’ll stay together as a pair for a period of two long months and mate repeatedly.
Female skinks give birth to live babies after 6 months of pregnancy. The babies are born large and can fend for themselves, independent from their mother.
When the next mating season comes, the pair will seek out each other and mate again, a relationship which lasts over their lifetime which sometimes reach 20 years. The pair will forever remain loyal to each other and won’t be interested in having other affairs.
The relationship will even last in death. Shinglebacks are slow-moving and they often become road kills when they cross it. If one of the pair is squashed and killed, his/her mate will hover around the body for many days, trying to wake it up and get it moving, until eventually it will reluctantly left. More often though, they’ll either got ran over by another car or fell prey to raptors, dingos, and monitor lizards that prowl the outback.
And people talk about how reptiles are cold and incapable of such emotions. Pity.
A few weeks ago my dad brought me a fallen bird’s nest with a couple chicks in it(yes, real chicks that hatch from eggs), in hopes that I would take care of them. They are tiny, weak and completely helpless, and are not capable of flight yet.
So, I gave them to Blizz -my green tree python- for dinner later on that day.
Well, what would you expect me to do?
Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine have replaced Gamera the tortoise’s leg with a wheel. The 12-year-old African spur-thighed tortoise recently had its left front leg amputated after suffering a severe thermal injury and tissue damage from an unknown source
